Run your own race
So often, we look at others and compare ourselves to them. And often, we come up short, writes André.
JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – We all strive after the ‘good’ life. We want to improve our standard of living and give our children what we never had. The world changes quickly all the time and we have to keep up. This is when many people go along to get along.
We are prosperous but at what price? People in today’s world are worn out.
Most of us feel that who we are, what we have and what we are doing is not enough. So often we look at others and compare ourselves to them. And often we come up short. We look and say, ‘Oh she’s 25 and she’s done this, this, this and that, or we watch people who ‘have it all together’ and we begin to get down on ourselves. We find any number of ways to compare ourselves to the next sister or brother and come up short.
This is why I say stop comparing yourself with others!
There’s a saying that the grass is always greener on the other side. Well, their water bill is higher too. Never wish you had someone else’s life and don’t let what others drive, wear or where they live fool you. It all comes at a price.
Maybe you’re trying to catch up with someone else, a neighbour, friend or co-worker. We get so wrapped up in the competition trying to outdo them, out dress them or trying to prove that we’re more important. We spend all of this time and energy going down that path when we should be using it to move towards our own God-given destiny.
Believe you me each of us has our own thorns. Be it weight, single-parenting, job dissatisfaction, marriage problems, financial distress, children woes, over-worked and underpaid issues, loneliness, confusion, self-doubt, this list can go on really.
If that’s you today, realise that your life will go to a whole new level if you would just quit competing with everyone around you. Be satisfied now. Don’t wait to be satisfied.
Put your hand over your heart and say to yourself, “I am satisfied with what I have. My love, my happiness, my health and security is coming to me from within, from the creator, as my source and supply”.
I say run your own race.
