A new dawn for South African women
On October 9, the DA Women’s Network (Dawn) of the Ward 23 branch hosted a successful fund-raising event at Eye of Africa.
Dawn is a growing network of women across South Africa.
Jacques van Rensburg said the organisation is passionate about addressing issues affecting South African women today such as rape, gender-based violence, maintenance and access to anti-retroviral drugs.
“Dawn is gravely concerned by the scourge of violence that is taking place in South Africa, particularly violence against women and children, which has left South Africa and the world in a state of understandable anger and mourning.
“Government and its agencies must address the scourge of violent acts against women,” said van Rensburg.

“Dawn believes there is no place, other than jail, for rapists and criminals. The organisation is committed to advancing women’s rights and in fighting for a society where women must thrive. We stand in solidarity with the millions of people, both here and abroad, calling for decisive leadership.
“We must also address socio-economic challenges, such as the vast inequality, joblessness and economic exclusion, which women and young people bear the brunt of. If we do not fix these economic imbalances, we will not fix our broken society,” he said.
