WATCH: Zanelle and her sponsors brings smiles to the elderly

Zanelle Huyzers's way of spreading hope for Christmas was to spoil the elderly at Silwerkroon Flats for the Elderly.

Zanelle’s Adopt a Granny or a Grandpa project has been going on for the past three years and it grew each year.

This year, 12-year-old Zanelle and a resident who wishes to remain anonymous worked very hard to get sponsors for the goods on the list which the elderly asked for.

Cause of the project

Zanelle, a learner from Laerskool President Steyn, is always thinking of ways to support the community and those in need, especially the elderly and children.

Earlier this year, the RECORD wrote an article about Zanelle where she asked for donations for the elderly. This is a project very close to her heart as she feels it is important to take care of and spoil the elderly.

“I want to change the lives of others, even if it is with the smallest donation or deed,” she said.

A fun-filled day

Christmas came early for the elderly at Silwerkroon this year as Zanelle and the resident planned a fun-filled day for the elderly.

On December 5, big things happened at Silwerkroon when a truck full of presents were dropped off. Santa Claus made a quick stop at Silwerkroon to hand out gifts to each and every resident.

The elderly was further spoiled and pampered.

Afrikaans singer Francois Deysel entertained the audience. Some of the songs he sang made the residents dance.
There was also a belly dancing performance which the residents enjoyed.

Another highlight of the day was when local hairdressers and nail technicians arrived to pamper the elderly.
They each received a manicure, a hair cut and a blow wave.

“With the help of all our sponsors, we made this possible. My heart warmed up when I saw the many smiles on Saturday. I could see we made a difference and for one day they felt extra special,” said Zanelle.

Thank you to all the sponsors

“None of this would have been possible without the help from our community and sponsors. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your support, love and care. Thank you is not even enough, but this just again shows how caring the community of Alberton is.”

Thank you to Hair and Beauty Bar, Woord en Lewe church, Ace Models Johannesburg South, NAPA drama and dance factory, National Paramedical Services, Kings Butchery, Mosaic Funeral group, Reformed Church Alberton, Alberview Primary, Fox Security, Hibiscus Garden Services, Ria en Pieter Prinsloo, Francios Deysel, Patches Pamper Parties and Spring Forest Plumbing.
