Marist Brothers Linmeyer marked World Read Aloud Day

Marist Brothers Linmeyer marked February 3, which is World Read Aloud Day, by celebrating reading for pleasure.

The Grade Ones enjoyed reading and listening to each other and their teacher in the peaceful surroundings of the school’s gardens.

“Reading for pleasure is a critical life skill and everyone enjoys hearing a good story,” Mandy Nuyten, a Grade One teacher, pointed out.

“Those who enjoy reading reap the benefits of good vocabulary and language skills,” she said.

The skill of reading opens doors to education and imparts the gift of imagination.

Children who read regularly are those who are the most successful at school and in life as they not only develop fluency but learn wonderful life lessons from the various themes touched on in novels.

Reading not only involves words but pictures and symbols as well.

It is wise to read each evening to your children as this develops a love of reading, as does modelling yourself enjoying a good book to relax with at the end of a busy day.
