Ill-treated pit bull receives assistance

Southside Sterilisation Assistance Project donated bags of dog food and a new bed to keep Layla, a pit bull breed, warm this winter.

After being confiscated from her owners on May 7, Layla, a pit bull breed, received a surprise visit from Southside Sterilisation Assistance Project on May 14.

These dog lovers donated bags of dog food and a new bed to keep Layla warm this winter.

According to Charmain Southon, GM at Alberton SPCA, Layla was confiscated because of the poor conditions she was living in.

“We have been feeding Layla three small meals a day and are making sure she is as comfortable as possible. We would like to give a huge shoutout to Southside Sterilisations and Brackenhurst Vet for their generous donation to Layla,” said Southon.

Glynis Jones of Southside Sterilisation Assistance Project commended the support received from locals in ensuring they can in turn make a difference.

“The donation came from the Alberton community, particularly Brackenhurst. They are very generous and enable us to also give back to local organisations. Through the donations we help out Cause 4 Paws, Alberton SPCA, New Hope and other entities,” she said.

Jones assured they will help sponsor sterilisations at the facility through Brackenhurst Veterinary Hospital.
She also encouraged the community to lend a helping hand to Alberton SPCA.
