Suspect arrested for possession of illegal ammunition

Fihla said the suspect will likely appear in the Booysens Magistrate's Court soon.

On May 17, JMPD K9 Unit officers received a complaint of a robbery at the corner of 2nd Street and Johannesburg Road in La Rochelle.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, on arrival officers were notified of a Nigerian male who was robbing people in the area. Officers searched and found him hiding among homeless people sleeping on 2nd Street. The male was searched and officers found a magazine containing 15 rounds of live ammunition in his possession.

“Officers searched for the firearm with no success. They questioned the suspect, who claimed a random lady gave him the magazine. The suspect was arrested and detained at Moffat View SAPS for possession of illegal ammunition,” he said.
