City of Joburg announces sites for Covid-19 vaccination

Residents can also visit their nearest clinics for more information on the vaccination process.

From May 26, the City of Johannesburg’s Health Department opened its non-medical sites to aid the Gauteng provincial government’s phase two of the Covid-19 vaccination roll-out programme.

These will be the first in several sites that are earmarked to speed up the process of vaccination. The City aims to vaccinate about 67 per cent of its 5.4 million residents in the next year or two. The current phase two mass vaccination roll-out programme prioritises persons who are 60 years and older as they are more vulnerable to serious illness, hospitalisation and death in the event they contract Covid-19.

In its second week, the mass vaccination roll-out programme is expected to inoculate over 450 000 Joburg residents over the age of 60 in eight non-medical sites across the city. The non-medical sites in the South and Region F are Ennerdale Extension Nine Community Centre, Ennerdale, and Yeoville Recreation Centre, Yeoville.
The MMC for health and social development, councillor Eunice Mgcina, encouraged all residents to first register on the national Electronic Vaccination Data System (EVDS) with their IDs or passports to ensure a speedy vaccination process. Residents are encouraged to visit the vaccination sites only after they had received an SMS advising them to do so.

“As the City of Joburg, we are excited to have partnered with the provincial government to deliver these much-needed vaccines to help us fight the surge of Covid-19.
“We urge residents to register for the programme on the EVDS platform or any health facility in the city.
“I would also like to call on the youth in the Joburg region to also help the elderly in their respective parts of the city to get registered on the EVDS,” Mgcina said.

Residents can also get more information on the vaccination process from any of the City’s 79 clinics across all seven regions.
