Lesufi wishes candidates well for the May/June exams
The final paper will be written on July 7.
The Education MEC in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, is wishing all candidates good luck for the 2021 May/June examinations in Gauteng on May 26.
“Today is the start of the 2021 May/June examinations and I wish all 50 000 candidates who will be writing over the next month or so all the best,” Lesufi said.
The examinations, which kicked off with foreign language exams such as French and Mandarin, will end on the afternoon of July 7 with candidates sitting for paper two agriculture sciences. No less than 485 000 question papers have been printed for exams in 66 subjects.
The breakdown of all the 49 681 candidates sitting for the exams in the province is as follows:
• 31 374 senior certificate;
• 16 246 full-time National Senior Certificate (NSC);
• 246 part-time NSC;
• 1023 NSC;
• 759 Adult Education and Training (AET) Level 4.
The majority of candidates, 17 844, will be writing maths literacy, followed by life sciences (16 630) and mathematics (13 802). The marking will take place between July 12 – 22 at six marking centres across the province. The GDE will also station six Covid compliance team members per marking centre who will have received training on compliance requirements and all standard compliance procedures will be followed at all marking centres.
The registration for the SC 2021 June commenced on October 1, 2020, for manual and online registration and closed on March 15. However, an extension for both manual and online registration was granted until March 31. For those candidates for the NSC rewrite (supplementary) in 2021 June, registration commenced immediately after the release of results on February 23 and closed on March 31.
This included candidates who wrote the 2020 November examination. A special concession was granted to candidates who had registered to write in 2020 June to rewrite in June 2021. The GDE remains committed to ensuring that all the 2021 May/June examinations take place in a safe environment adhering strictly to all Covid-19 protocols; including wearing masks, social distancing and regularly washing/sanitising of hands.
