Open day at Curro Oakdene

This independent primary school provides high-quality education with small class sizes.

Curro Oakdene held their open day on May 22 to allow parents to view the school, especially the new classes that, among others, include robotics and IT labs.

In Grade One to Three they focus on teaching the basic skills, concepts and knowledge required for further learning. They offer a vibrant, invitational atmosphere where learners enjoy coming to school and where they acquire a love for learning that will sustain them throughout their school years.

The school also creates opportunities for personal growth so that learners can become responsible and accountable for their actions in the intersen phase.

Executive head Jen Alexander said the three main learning areas are language, mathematics and life skills that include creative arts and physical education.
Learners benefit from specialised offerings such as music, chess and environmental appreciation.

Intersen phase: Grade Four and Five
In these grades, the emphasis is still on establishing basic foundations, but learners are led into more abstract thought and independent work.

“We prepare them for high school by teaching them how to apply the skills and concepts they have learned. We also promote creativity and critical thinking by encouraging children to make their own choices within well-established boundaries. Some of our specialised subjects include computer literacy and robotics,” she said.
