Family of alleged hit-and-run victim opens case at Alberton SAPS

An Alberton North mother has opted to open a case at Alberton SAPS after her son was recently knocked over by a car on his way back home.

A distressed Alberton North mother, Shaleen Sooknunan, has opted to open a case of reckless and negligent driving at Alberton SAPS.

This is after her son, Dante Singh (11), was recently knocked over by a car on his way back home.

According to Sooknunan, she has since opened a case after realising that the female driver has decided not to take accountability.

She told the RECORD that she is still sitting with bills which sum up to almost R7 000 and that she has had to spend about R1 000 for her son’s check-ups and medication.

“The lady’s husband called after seeing a Facebook post but to date hasn’t reported it or encouraged his wife to come forward and take accountability for her actions. After the chat with her husband I haven’t heard another word from them,” she said.

Sooknunan said she feels that the female driver was more interested in her windscreen and did not care whether her son lived or not after the incident.

“How do you sleep at night knowing what happened and you haven’t bothered calling to check up on how the child you knocked over is doing? It clearly doesn’t bother her. I wish we could reach some kind of agreement as I will not be dropping the case,” she said.
