Councillor urges parents to be involved in their children’s education
Manny de Freitas and Faeeza Chame visit schools in the South.
Member of Parliament Manny de Freitas accompanied Ward 57 Clr Faeeza Chame to visit some of the schools to find out what are the challenges they are experiencing.
They said they were pleased with the schools they visited, Montanus Primary and Regents Park Primary. They promised that more visits will follow to various other schools.
Chame said most of the learners have already settled in and are bonding with the educators. Educators want the learners to come prepared, focused and motivated.
Learners must enjoy the learning process and be active participants in the learning process.

“I want to encourage parents to be more involved in their children’s education and get to know the educators and the principals. Pay your children’s school fees on time. Schools cannot run without funding. If you need to be exempted from paying you have the option to apply for a government subsidy.
“People with education tend to be happier than those without one. This is because they have better jobs, earn more money and live better quality lives. They also tend to be more active citizens and have a greater sense of purpose.
“Education starts at home. Parents need to be examples to their children. Another worrying factor is that some parents will collect their children after school with sleepwear (gowns), this is a bad example towards our children. We only want the best for our children,” she said.
