WATCH: Electricity protest disrupts traffic on R82 in Kibler Park
Residents of the R82 flats took to the streets after being without electricity since yesterday morning, demanding answers from City Power over the delayed restoration of their supply.
Residents of the R82 flats in Kibler Park staged a service delivery protest on the R82 on October 30 following an electricity outage that has reportedly continued since the previous morning.
Residents said they had been without electricity since October 29 and were initially told that power would be restored at around 11:00. However, supply had not been restored by the morning of October 30.
Protesters burned tyres and used them to block parts of the road. Both directions remained open to traffic at the time of reporting, with approximately 10 residents at the scene.

Ward 125 councillor Matsobane Sekhu is at the scene as residents await an explanation from City Power.

Sekhu said City Power had informed residents that maintenance work on its infrastructure would take place from 08:00 to 16:00 on October 29.
“However, there were delays, and I was with the City Power officials here until 01:00. When I left, they said they were restoring the electricity,” he said.
Sekhu said he later discovered that electricity had still not been restored when he woke up this morning.
“They said they were experiencing technical issues. I’m not a technician, so I cannot explain what the problem is. However, they said they would come here and address the community,” he said.
The councillor said residents were still waiting for City Power to explain what had gone wrong and why electricity had not yet been restored.
WAR Security Services are at the scene. SAPS officers had also attended but had since left. No other emergency services were reported at the scene at the time of reporting.
The protest was reported to be non-violent.
The protest comes a day after residents in Turffontein also took action over electricity-related concerns, giving the Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSHCO) 72 hours to respond to their demands. Read more about the Turffontein protest here.
