Guns, drugs and criminals netted

TWO arrests on the Bluff and two in Wentworth removed four criminals off the streets in police operations this month.

On Tuesday, 8 October a joint operation by the dog unit, crime intelligence and the Durban Flying Squad on 8 October led to the arrest two men on the Bluff, who were wanted for armed robbery in Mayville.

Two pistols with 15 live rounds of ammunition were confiscated from the men and will be sent for ballistic testing to establish if they were used in any other crime nationally.

In a separate incident, at about 4.30pm in Wentworth on Sunday, 13 October, patrolling members of the Durban Flying Squad Narcotics task team followed up on a tip they received about drugs in the area. The information led to the arrest of two men for the possession of drugs.

Christopher Jones (54) was arrested in Olive Grove Road in possession of 20 straws of heroin with the street value of R500 and Mavindren Pillay (40) was arrested in Postium Malukazi Road in possession of mandrax tablets with the street value of R2,000 and R7,470 in cash. Both men later appeared in the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court.
