Truck driver pleads guilty to child’s rape

truck driver showed no remorse.

Phoenix man, Arumugam Naidoo (38), who was convicted of kidnapping and raping a seven-year-old Montclair girl, will be sentenced in the Durban Regional Court on Thursday, 3 April.

Naidoo was convicted on charges of kidnapping, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and rape after he pleaded guilty. He was arrested after his employer found items in one of his trucks. The employer alerted Brighton Beach Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), who then questioned Naidoo.

In a court appearance on Thursday, 27 March, Naidoo confessed to kidnapping the child and raping her. He said he committed the crime alone. The court heard how he hit the child with a brick when she wouldn’t stop crying.

“When he was asked to look at us in court, he looked everywhere else, but not at us. He didn’t apologise. He doesn’t care. Even though he admitted the crime, it still doesn’t bring us peace,” said the child’s distraught mother. “Why did he take my child?” she asks. “It was her birthday on Wednesday and we could not do anything for her because we are up and down with the case.”

The young girl is expected to go back to school when re-opens.

Naidoo will be sentenced on Thursday, 3 April.
