Outrage over festival cancellation

Local residents take to Facebook to vent their anger over the cancelled festival.

SOUTH Durbanites have taken to social media to voice their fury and disappointment at the cancellation of the Colour Festival Durbanthat was set to take place at Harlequins this weekend.

Though details of what led to the cancellation are conflicting, the two festival organisers have taken to their Facebook pages to issue statements. Unity Colour Festival (www.facebook.com/unitycolourfestival) claims to own the registered trademark for the promotion of ‘Colour Festival Durban’, while organiser of the local event named Colour Festival Durban (www.facebook.com/ColourFestivalDurban) state it was a dispute between partners that went awry, causing the cancellation of the event.

‘Illegal use of trademarks’ behind festival cancellation

One commentor said they were disappointed the cancellation happened so close to the event date, as they had travelled to Durban to attend the event and purchased many tickets for friends and family. Another expressed their anger at poor planning and the potential for more organisers to leave Durban out of large events as has become the norm over the years.
