Police need cellphone owner to come forward

Man confesses to robbery.

A 20-year-old man was charged with possession of property suspected to be stolen after he was arrested by Montclair SAP’s Warrant officers, Poobalan Marimuthu and Herbert Ngcobo on Thursday, 3 April.

The man was first nabbed by Park Patrol officers who had chased him from the intersection of Kenyon Howden and Bale roads, where he robbed a woman of a cellphone, to Pemberton Road.

Warrant officers, Marimuthu and Ngcobo were conducting a routine patrol in Pemberton Road when they were flagged down by Park Patrol who had detained the young man. Police searched the man and found the stolen cellphone hidden near his groin area. He was taken to Montclair police station for questioning. Park Patrol officers returned to the scene of crime to search for the woman but she was nowhere to be seen.

After a series of questions from Montclair police, the young man confessed to robbing the woman. A case of possession suspected to be stolen was opened against under section 36. He made a first appearance in the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 4 April. Montclair SAP requests the woman who was robbed to visit the station and make a statement.
