Vigilant cop recovers unlicensed gun, ammo
A Bluff policeman recovered a hijacked car and gun in Lamontville.

BRIGHTON Beach SAP tracking and tracing unit officer, Sergeant Robert Jooste recovered a hijacked vehicle and unlicensed gun in Lamontville at about 12.30pm yesterday, 14 April.
Following a tip, Sgt Jooste was patrolling in Lamontville when he noticed the driver of a silver Chevrolet acting suspiciously. When the driver and his passenger noticed the police officer, they tried to race away. With Sgt Jooste in pursuit, the men abandoned the car in Khulu Street and escaped on foot.
Inside the car, Sgt Jooste found a .38 special revolver with five rounds of ammunition, seven car keys and immobilisers.
Investigations have revealed the car was hijacked in 2011 in Pinetown. Fingerprints have been sent to the local criminal record centre for analysis and the gun has been sent for ballistics analysis.
Brighton Beach SAP management commends Sgt Jooste for his vigilance that led to the recovery.
