Complexes in thieves’ sights

Many vehicles are targeted at a time.

There has been an increase in theft out of motor vehicle and theft from motor vehicle cases opened at Montclair police station.

Many of the incidents have been reported from complexes and flats in Summerfields, Risingfields, Roland Chapman and Wood roads.

Criminals carry out these crimes in gated properties as police do not have access to patrol inside them. Even though most complexes and flats have security guards at the entrance, patrols of the perimeter are carried out hourly, giving criminals sufficient time to conduct their activities. Many vehicles are broken into at a time. Radios, sound equipment, money, laptops and sporting equipment are being targeted.

Montclair SAP urges residents not to leave valuable items in their vehicles overnight. Residents are also requested to report suspicious people on the property as well as minor theft, as this allows police to establish a crime pattern which could lead to the arrest of the criminals.

You can report suspicious activity to Crime Stop on 08600-10111 or the Montclair police station on 031-469-8200.
