Heroin straws land man behind bars

A man was arrested for drug possession in Clairwood.

A 39-year-old man was arrested in Clairwood yesterday, 16 April by the Durban Flying Squad narcotics task team for being in possession of 51 heroin straws.

The team was patrolling Sastri Road when they noticed a man near a demolished building, behaving suspiciously.

While they were questioning him, the officers noticed he had a folded newspaper lying next to him. A search of the newspaper revealed 51 heroin straws, with a street value of R1,550 and R355 in cash. He was arrested for possession of drugs and remanded in custody at Brighton Beach police station.

“Drug dealers need to be aware that we will arrest them on the street or even in their homes if they continue to ply their trade in this province,” said KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
