Mixed league results for Wanderers BC over last two outings

On Friday, 25 April, the R900 snowball was not won when V Atkinson's number was drawn.

IN the men’s interclub league over the last two Saturdays, Wanderers Bowling Club’s teams all played away in round 6 and then all played at home in round 7.

The results were a heady mix of close calls, narrow wins and losses.

On the first Saturday, the A team won 5-2 against Wentworth then lost 3-4 against Amanzimtoti. Lofty won both his matches, Richard won 1 and lost one, and Arnie lost both, but narrowly – and on the last end in the latter case.

The B side had two outstanding wins of 5-0 against Northlands and log leaders, Le Domaine with a brilliant combined 72 shots to the good for the two matches. This should put them at the top of their division. Well done to Steve and Dennis and their teams.

The C side went down 0-5 against Morningside, then after a few player changes, got a 5-0 against the Winklespruit log leaders side, Andy winning well by 12 or so, and Jimmy winning by 2.

The D side scored 2-3 in both encounters, thanks to a win by Peter Tayfield against Umhlanga in round 6 and a win by Errol against Amanzimtoti in round 7.

The E side scored 2-3 against Westville Bowling Club in round 6 then lost 0-5 against Berea at home. Eric K was unlucky to lose his match by a single shot.

One club competition was played. Last year’s drawn men’s trips was played out between Dennis Gericke, Bob Hayward and Eric Redman against Steve Van Rooyen, Peter Tayfield and Greg McGuinness (in for Johan Nel who could not be located). In a tight match, Dennis and team prevailed to win the title 22-20.

In the Oppenheimer, Steve Van Rooyen and Jackie Freeman managed to win their morning match to make it into the last eight, but then unfortunately went out to Toti’s Alex Stirzaker to bring their campaign to an end.

On Friday, 25 April, the R900 snowball was not won when V Atkinson’s number was drawn. The various meat winners were: Mutton pack, Eric and Patti Redman; sirloin steaks, John Fourie; chicken pack and rump steak went to Dan Paruk; Mike Flack, pork ribs and Eric and Anne Smit got the chicken. The monthly bowls draw resulted in Gavin Knox getting the R750, Jeff Cronje won R500 and Norman Bester won R250.

On Friday, 2 May, the monthly R1,000 draw was done. The main prize was shared by Dave Alcock and Ernie Lochner who got R400 each, and third place went to Gary Moffatt and Lilah Nel who received R200. The snowball was again not won when Keith Wild was not present and will be R1,100 next week. The various meat winners were: Mutton pack, Cave James; pork shoulder roast, Themba Lwana; chicken pack, Allan Swan; rump steak, PJ Sparks; lamb ribs, S Thomas; chicken, Ian Demmer.
