Newton’s team claim JJ Memorial spoils

ON Friday, 25 April, Wentworth Bowling Club’s (BC) men’s casual bowls first prize went to Herby Hoffman, Dave Carroll and Smiler Wilesmith on +12.
Second prize was won by Colin Howes, Paul Stainless Steele and Willie Gericke on +11, and the biscuits went to Bob Hayward, Eric Miller and Henry Welgemoed on 10.
The meat raffles were won by Fred Andrew (pork) with no 93 and Graham Bransby (beef) with no 99. The first 60/40 board draw was won by Brian Smith with no 53, second draw went to Hilton Lassak with no 72. The second 60/40 board draws were won by Dudley Dorrofield with no 3, second draw went to Eric Miller with no 11.
On Sunday, 27 April, in the Big Jim any pairs, first session went to Terry Micholson and Ron Gillespie with a +17, while second session went to Johnny and Eileen Du Plessis with a +13. The overall winners were Robert Mhlongo and Moses Noba with a 4 + 27. The meat raffle went to Honey Kitchenbrand with no 10 and the whiskey draw was won by Ina Davies with no 67. The 60/40 board draws went to Kitty Schaefer with no 12 and Ken Koch with no 90. Be reminded that the next Big Jim will take place on 25 May. The stainless steel braai pack was won by Ina Davies.
On Thursday, 1 May, the JJ Memorial saw Ben Newton and his team take first place with 6 + 38. Runners-up went to Frank Greyvenstein who had to forfeit 33% of his points as his team consisted of three men unfortunately, but they still managed to score 6 + 27. The third place was taken by Dave Le Roux and his team on 6 + 24. The session prizes went to Johnny Du Plessis and his team for first session, Spider Williams and his team for second session and Keith Wild and his team in the third session. Apologies to the team members not having their names written in, as unfortunately the scribe only had access to the skips’ names for this tournament.
On Friday, 2 May in the men’s casual bowls, first prize went to Graham Bransby, Tomcat Cavanagh and Buck Boettiger with a +14. Second prize was taken by Terry Micholson and Ashley Mc Intyre with a +2. The biscuits went to John Somerville, Dave Carroll and Smiler Wilesmith with 6. The meat raffle (pork) was won by Tomcat Cavanagh with no 62. The 60/40 board draws went to John Somerville with no 27 in the first draw and in the second draw, Stan McKenzie with no 51.

The league results for Saturday, 3 May saw the A team beat Westville BC B by 4/3 while the B team lost to Ridley Park B by 5/0. Congratulations to the A side.
Wentworth BC once again thanks all who participated in the various competitions and those who helped behind the scenes. Their presence is most appreciated.
This coming week’s competitions include Tuesday, 6 May tabs-in 8.30am for 9am; Wednesday, 7 May family and friends fun bowls followed by a braai 2.30 for 3pm for all the Wednesday bowlers. Fri 9th is our Friday Mens Casual Bowls and Sunday 11th Tabs in.
Tip for the week – Don’t play bowls with a hangover it creates many pineapples – as Spider will profess to.
