THE Durban Association For The Aged (DAFTA) South Service Centre in Merebank proudly opened the newly renovated Merebank regional hall on Wednesday, 23 April.
The hall, which has been named Sibaya Auditorium, was funded by Afrisun KZN Community Development Trust. The resulted in the investment of R3-million. DAFTA, who are the caretakers of the hall, will ensure it is run efficiently and sustainably. The hall will be used by various clubs and care centres for the elderly.
“Afrisun KZN Community Development Trust’s generous and sterling contribution has added value to this community and hence preserved the assets of our country,” said DAFTA’s treasurer, Krish Govender.
“The hall went from being a derelict, dilapidated building to the smart, clean and inviting hall which is currently being enjoyed by the community. Over 1,000 elderly will use this space regularly to meet, receive social support, health assessment and to learn in a mutual community,” said Afrisun KZN Trusts board member, Tristan Kaatze.
