Vehicles on verges targeted by thieves

Motorists urged to take precautions when parking their vehicles.

THEFT out of motor vehicles is on the rise in the Brighton Beach SAP policing area.

According to Brighton Beach SAP communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux, there has been a sharp increase in reports of thefts from vehicles, especially in Jacobs, Clairwood and Bayhead.

About 70% of these thefts take place at night and it is predominantly vehicles parked on verges that are targeted, with some thefts reported inside business and residential premises.

Thieves are targeting mobile phone, laptops and computer equipment, along with truck tyres, tool boxes and other business equipment.

Cpt Le Roux urges vehicle owners to take the necessary precautions to ensure their valuables are not left in plain sight inside vehicles and that truck drivers use secure premises to park their trucks overnight.
