Heroin hidden in chip packet

Drugs concealed in chip packet found by patrolling officers.

ALERT Wentworth police officers arrested a 24-year-old man who had 86 straws of heroin concealed in a chip packet.

Wentworth SAP crime prevention officers, Constables Graham Mei and Brandin Naidoo, who were patrolling on Major Calvert Street, observed a man acting suspiciously on the corner of the road. They approached him and noticed he was holding a chip packet in his right hand. When the officers looked into the packet, they found 86 straws sealed on both ends and filled with powder suspected to be heroin.

He was charged with possession of heroin and appeared in Wentworth Court on Monday, 12 May and was granted bail of R5,000.

“The police will be harsh to those who deal in drugs and make sure they are arrested and get convicted. Drugs are our main concern in this area, since the youth are also involved in drugs. We want to eradicate drugs in Wentworth and appeal to our community to report those dealings to the police,” said Wentworth communications officer, Lt M Gumede.
