Wentworth BC men to compete in ladder challenge

May I say its been a pleasure writing all the stories on behalf of the members and friends of Wentworth Bowling Club, it is with regret that I cannot continue as of now and wish the new scribe all the best.

WENTWORTH Bowling Club friends and family fun bowls on Wednesday, 14 May saw first prize go to Bokka van der Westhuizen and Margaret Walters with +17.

The biscuits went to Spider Williams and Brian Smith with 7.

In the raffle draws, first draw went to Spider Williams, second draw to Brendon Davies, third draw to Margaret Walters and fourth prize to Terry Micholson.

On Friday, 16 May in the men’s Friday casual bowls, first prize went to Herby Hofmann, Brian Hollis and Shaun Sutherland with +17. Second prize went to Keith Wild, John Yulinie and Ron Parsonage on +12, and the sportsmen’s prize was won by Colin (Snowy) Howes, Dave Carroll and the great Smiler Wilesmith with a 9.

The draws for the meat raffles went as follows: Pork, Colin Nicholas number 36; beef, Stan Mc Kenzie number 53.

In the 60/40 board draws, first board draw winners was Flo Harper number 38, second draw Flo Harper number 76.

The second of the 60/40 draws: First draw Tomcat Cavanagh number 85, second draw Stan Mc Kenzie number 45.

A belated happy birthday to Val Herbert, who is 77-years-young and best wishes for many more. The scribe congratulates Cora and Gwen on their win against Ellen and Val in the drawn women’s pairs final. Result was 24/21 to Cora and Gwen. Well done to you.

Be reminded that the club’s first breakfast trips any combinations will be held this coming Thursday, 22 May. Entrance fee is R25 per player and there are still spaces available.

Wentworth BC has also introduced the men’s ladder challenge, where you can challenge up to three places above your current position, the final positions will be determined at the end of this year. Play hard, as this will determine your ranking at the club for next year.

The following competitions for the coming week are as follows: Tuesday, 20 May tabs in; Wednesday, 21 May family and friends fun bowls; Thursday, 22 May breakfast trips any combination; Friday, 23 May men’s Friday casual bowls and Sunday, 25 May the Big Jim. Finally my tip for the week: If you can get John Somerville driving from the first end, you have a chance. My final piece of advice is, if you are the president it does not matter you still need to practise, as the selectors are watching you.
