Refinery empowers students with computer skills
A GROUP of 91 delegates received certificates for completing various computer skills courses at a ceremony held at Engen Refinery in Tara Road.
The Engen Computer School trains students in introductory-level computer skills. Once they have completed the nine units of study students receive a national certificate: Information Technology for End User Computing.
Added Advantage Academy who runs the school on before of the refinery have provided computer skills to 1042 graduates and helped almost 300 graduates to find employment since joining forces with Engen in 2009.
Public Affairs Manager for Engen Refinery Durban Thandeka Cele says the academy is there to empower and assist unemployed graduates to find employment. “Twenty six of this year’s graduates have already either found employment or been accepted into learnership programmes, which shows that Engen is making a big difference in the lives of manypeople living in the South Durban community,” she said.
