Heroin straw haul netted in Wentworth
290 straws of heroine were found on a man who was arrested in Wentworth.
POLICE on patrol in Wentworth arrested a man carrying 290 straws of heroin on Wednesday, 14 May.
Constables Mnyandu and Tobo from Wentworth crime prevention noticed a man acting suspiciously while they were on patrol along Major Calvert Street. A search of the man revealed 290 straws in a red plastic packet filled with a substance suspected to be heroin and R1,100 in cash.
He was arrested for possession of drugs and he appeared in Wentworth Court the following day, where bailed was denied. He was remanded into police custody for further investigations.
Wentworth SAP communications officer Lieutenant Gumede warns the community that drugs are in the area. “They contribute to crimes like theft, assault, domestic violence and parents should always monitor the behaviour of their children and seek assistance when necessary,” said Lt Gumede.
