Woman dies as truck ploughs into car

A WOMAN was killed and a man seriously injured when the car they were travelling in was hit by a truck in Durban CBD this afternoon, 17 June.

A truck allegedly smashed into the side of a car at the intersection of Argyle and Stanger streets at about 2.30pm, dragging it up the road and severely injuring its two occupants.

Netcare 911 paramedics worked to treat the woman, while firemen used the Jaws of Life to free her from the wreckage. The man had already been removed from the car and was receiving medical attention. Unfortunately, the woman died during the rescue attempt due to the severity of her injuries.

The man stabilised and transported to a local hospital.
