Man arrested for culpable homicide and for failing to remain at an accident scene.
A COLLISION between a bakkie and a VW Polo suspected to be stolen left one dead and a pedestrian injured, when they crashed at the intersection of Swinton and Pendlebury roads, Mobeni on Saturday morning, 28 June.
The driver of the VW Polo allegedly drove through a red robot which led to a collision with a bakkie. The bakkie overturned and hit a pedestrian on the side walk and the passenger of the VW Polo sustained critical injuries.
Operations director of Rescue Care, Garrith Jamieson said: “We found a critically injured male in the passenger seat of one vehicle. Advanced life support assistance was called for immediately, as his injuries were extensive. He was carefully extricated from the vehicle, before being placed on a manual ventilator. Once stabilised, he was rushed to hospital. The pedestrian was also treated before being transported to a nearby hospital.”
According to a police report, the passenger in the VW Polo died in hospital and the driver of the vehicle, who had alighted and fled the scene, was later arrested on charges of culpable homicide and for failing to remain at an accident scene. Sources allege the vehicle was stolen.
