Mrs Commonwealth contender comes out of her shell

A MONTCLAIR resident with a heart for making a difference will represent KwaZulu-Natal at this year’s Mrs Commonwealth South Africa.

Charlotte Ngonelo is one of 12 finalists who will head-off to the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City in Johannesburg in on 29 August with the hope of winning this prestigious title. The pageant helps empower women to bring about change in their communities. The winner of the Mrs Commonwealth South Africa will represent the country at the international Commonwealth pageant in London in November.
“The real reason I decided to do this competition is to come out of my shell. I feel that I have all the qualities to help change people’s lives,” said Charlotte. The former Mowat Park Girls High School pupil has an honours degree in Basic Education and is passionate about working with children.
Charlotte runs Ubuhle Arts and Skills Development – a school which helps matriculants do music performances for various events in the Durban area. If Charlotte wins the Mrs Commonwealth title, it will be a platform from which to help grow her business. “I see that these disabled people have a yearning to be loved and this inspired me to start this business,” said Charlotte.
The 31-year-old mother of four is a keen muso herself and plays steel drums, guitar and percussions. Charlotte cites the support of her family as a big part of her success. “I’ve got a grand family. They are so supportive. From joining me in eating healthily to training with me to keep fit,” said Charlotte.
In her spare time Charlotte enjoys painting and playing music. To vote for Charlotte in the Mrs Commonwealth pageant, SMS Charlotte Ngonelo to 42899. SMSes cost R3. Readers can also ‘like’ her Facebook page.
