AN adult swift tern with a fish hook stuck in its mouth succumbed to its injuries while being treated by the staff at Centre For Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) in Yellowwood Park on Wednesday, 2 July.
The tern, which had critical injuries, was found at Isipingo Beach by a member of the public who took it to Amanzimtoti SPCA. Crow was called by the SPCA and fetched the bird.
Unfortunately, he died shortly after admission. Fishermen are reminded to discard their fishing material appropriately as fish hook and fishing paraphernalia left lying around on the beach can result in the death of wildlife and also injure unwitting beachgoers.
