Three arrested for illegal guns

Police in Wentworth arrest men with illegal guns.

THREE people were arrested on Saturday, 5 July in a police operation in Wentworth targeting drug activities and illegal gun possession.

The joint operation, conducted by Wentworth SAP, Durban Flying Squad and Metro Police was initiated in a bid to clamp down on illegal firearms and drug-related cases in Wentworth. Three people between the ages of 17 and 27 years were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and a .38 revolver, pistol and 357 magnum pistol and ammunition were recovered.

The guns will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if they have been used in any crimes.

“Such operations will continue in all parts of the province to get rid of illegal firearms that are used in committing crimes. We appeal to the community to work closely with the police by providing valuable information that will lead to the recovery of these firearms and arrest wanted suspects,” said KZN provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
