ABOUT 70 to 80 train commuters sustained minor to moderate injuries when a two trains collided at the Berea Road train station on Tuesday, 8 July.
Both trains were headed south, when one train rear-ended the other. ER24’s branch media representitave, Kyle van Reenen described the scene as chaotic.
“The accident happened between 6.30pm and 7pm. The area was cordoned off to determined those with serious injuries so they could be attended to first. Extra resources were called in to transport patients to various hospitals,” said van Reenen.
“The railway lines shut-down to allow emergency response services to conduct their duties. The other lines were operational after two hours, but the line on which the accident occurred remained closed, pending investigations.”
The cause of the accident is unknown. No fatalities have been reported thus far.
