Police focus on safety on Women’s Day
IN honour of Women’s Day, Montclair SAPS hosted a safety awareness talk at the Montclair Recreational Hall on Wednesday, 6 August.
Capt Priscilla Ellappen and W/O Poobalan Marimuthu gave women insight on how to avoid being a victim of crime. Capt Ellappen made special mention of the off-ramp which is a crime hotspot. She warns motorists to be especially vigilant when using the on and off ramps.
Women received pamphlets with safety tips which included safety at home, being vigilant as well as general vehicle safety. “Many people leave items on the front seats of their vehicles. People should rather lock valuable items in the boot of their car,” said Ellappen. She also advises motorists to keep a good distance between vehicles when stopping at traffic lights. This will allow motorists to get away should they be approached by robbers.
Capt Ellappen said motorists also need to ensure they lock their vehicles while standing at their vehicle and not lock and unlock their vehicles with a remote from a distance.
