Sharl joins the Sun news team
Sharl Els has joined the Southlands Sun as of 1 August as a reporter.

Sharl joined the SUN in April 2013 as a features journalist.
He matriculated from Amanzimtoti High School in 2004 and worked in the family business before pursuing journalism. He graduated from Varsity College with a diploma in journalism in 2012, and worked for a communications company in Kloof before joining the SUN.
“I’m really looking forward to working in the area and following my true passion for writing.” Sharl describes himself as an avid music collector and enjoys singing in his free time. He also covered the general elections in May for SABC radio. “I knew at the age of 12 that I wanted to become a journalist, it’s time now to follow my dreams,” said Sharl. He cites news reader Riaan Cruywagen and Carte Blanche’s Derek Watts as people he admires.
Sharl replaces outgoing reporter Mbali Mpofu and will cover the Montclair, Clairwood, Woodlands, Woodhaven and Yellowwood Park areas, while his counterpart, Erin Hanekom covers the Bluff, Jacobs and Wentworth areas.
“Newspaper journalism is at the heart of the media industry. I love that I’m living my passion through ink and a pen,” said Sharl.
