Wentworth BC to host barefeet bowls

WENTWORTH Bowling Club had a not too quiet week.
In the family and friends fun bowls played on Wednesday, 20 August, the prize was won by Terry Micholson and Johan Nel and the 60/40 was taken by Kurt Spack twice. The whisky raffle went to Des Howard.
In the men’s Friday casual bowls played on 22 August, first prize was won by Herbie Hoffman, Allan Moore and Stan McKenzie with + 14. Second prize went to Allan Ritchie, Tomcat Cavanagh and Robin DeGouveia with +7. Dorro Dorrofield, Derek Stevens and Johan Nel took the sportsman prize. The pork raffle was won by Derek Stevens and Flo won the beef. The first 60/40 board was won by Rosa Vincent twice and the second board went to Bill Addinall and John Somerville.
The Big Jim pairs was played on Sunday, 24 August. Overall winners were partners in bowls, Greg Dorrofield and Jorge Santos with 4 + 23. First session went to Dave le Roux and Spider Williams with 2 + 15 and second session was won by Dave Roux and Patricia Puis with 2 + 9. The first 60/40 board went to Spider Williams and Dorro Dorrofield and the second board was won by Maria Cavanagh and Bokka van der Westhuizen. Ellen Loots took away the meat raffle and Bokka van der Westhuizen is having the whisky.
Condolences to Willie Gericke and family who lost his brother on Sunday.
There is a potjiekos competition on 30 August, with a prize for the best potjie and a prize for the best dressed couple. Entry fee is R50 for the potjiekos competition and R10 for a bowls game. Go and enjoy the day with your family.
Let bowls be your ticket to the Olympics – Bowls South Africa obtained five gold medals at the Olympics and this has created great interest in bowls and people of all ages are trying out their hand in this game. Wentworth Bowling Club will be hosting ‘Barefeet Bowls’ on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 3.30pm, for all people interested to try the game. Call Terry on 084-664-4411 to find out more and to book your place. Dress code will be casual and bowls are provided.
Events for the next week: Wednesday, 27 August at How’s ur Fatha at 9am; family and friends fun bowls at 3pm. All new bowlers are welcome. Take along flat sole shoes, as bowls are available.
On Thursday, 28 August the club hosts the Rawsons breakfast trips at 9am, and on Friday, 29 August it’s the men’s casual bowls at 9am.
The kitchen is open daily from Tuesdays to Sundays from 8am until 6pm. Breakfast, bar lunches and Sunday lunches are served. Call Ina Davies on 082-768-4644.
