Man arrested for drug possession

Wentworth police arrested a man in Merebank for possession of dagga.

A MAN, who police believe was attempting to sell drugs in Merebank, was arrested at Cuttings Beach on Friday, 22 August.

While they were on patrol in Merebank, Wentworth SAP crime prevention officers, Sergeant Nqashi and constables Mbanjwa, Mnyandu, Mbongwa and Cele noticed a man standing by his car, behaving questionably.

When they searched the man and his car, they found eight plastic packets containing more than 15 grams of dagga and a rolled cigarette. The man, from South Beach, was arrested for possession of dagga.

According to Wentworth SAP communications officer, Lieutenant Gumede, police believe he came to sell the dagga to the fishermen at Cuttings Beach. He was released on bail and is expected to appear in court soon. “Police will continuously visit the beach and search for people who deal or possess dagga. The members are commended for the arrest,” said Lt Gumede.
