South Coast Rd crash driver cut free from car

Taxi crash on South Coast Road.

THE Jaws of Life were needed to free a taxi driver after he crashed into the back of a truck on South Coast Road at about 6am this morning, 29 August.

Three people, including the taxi driver, were injured in the collision near Umlazi. Rescue Care paramedics had to call for assistance from the fire department to free the driver, who was critically injured. Once free, the paramedics used Advanced Life Support assistance to stabilise him and he, along with two passengers with minor injuries, were taken to a nearby hospital.

According to Rescue Care operations director, Garrith Jamieson, the cause of the crash is unknown, but police are investigating.
