Wanderers’ district pairs bowlers wished well for next Sunday

IN a quiet week at Wanderers Bowling Club, only the results of six matches in club competitions can be reported.
Having played earlier in the week, Arnie Harper beat Peter Tayfield 21-6 in the men’s senior singles, and Dennis Gericke and Mike Freeman beat Terrence and Pat McGlynn 32-10 in the men’s nominated pairs.
Apart from those two matches, the four first round matches of the men’s drawn fours were played on Saturday afternoon.
Lofty Cawthorne, Bob Hayward, Jimmy Neill (drawn to replace the unavailable Mike Freeman), and Phil Pieterse beat Eric Kitchenbrand, Errol Pienaar, Ken Koch and Derek Stevens 21-16; Robin Grobler (drawn for the unavailable Ron Jackson), Kim Hawkins, Russell Shepherd and Shaun McAlister beat Robbie Carr, Greg McGuinness, Peter Tayfield and Tommy Simpkins (who replaced Eric Redman) 25-16; Gary Moffatt, Steve Van Rooyen (drawn to replace Andy Andraschko), Bill Addinall and Brian Deats squeaked in 21-20 against Arnie Harper, Chris Pozyn, Peter Prenger and William Richardson (who replaced Clive Symons); Dennis Gericke, Eric Smit, Jeff Bolt and Dave Faifer beat Ken Thomas, Chris Klopper, Mike Flack and Johan Nel 25-17.

The various meat pack winners were: Mutton pack Eddy Bailey, pork roast Billy Lottering, rib fingers and burger patties Clive Symons, chicken pack Thomas Simpkins, rump steak Clive Symons, chicken Eddy Bailey.
In the monthly bowls draw, the winners were R750 Richard Hendicott, R500 Brian Craig, R250 Jeff Bolt.
This Saturday, 6 September is the biggest event of the year at the club, when Thumpers motorcycle club hosts its annual Spring Jol with over 1,200 bikers from all over South Africa attending from 11am until 2pm on Sunday. Due to the numbers, the club’s usual parking area will not be available to members. Parking will be advertised on the notice board during the week, indicating where members must park.
Sunday, 7 September sees the start of the PNB men’s and women’s pairs all day. Three rounds are to be played on a round robin basis. Of the 10 or so Wanderers teams entered, all are wished good bowling and great results.
