Spelling bee gets ideas buzzing at sustainable expo
South Durban represents at Sustainable Expo.

THE audience was abuzz with excitement as the South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management (ABM) team hosted a spelling bee and showed innovative uses for used tyres at the fifth annual Sustainable Exhibition.
At the three-day event from Monday to Wednesday, 22 to 24 August upwards of 300 exhibitors demonstrated pioneering ways to recycle and live sustainably. And the SDB ABM team’s input was no different, with recycled tyres turned into a vegetable garden, flower garden, teacup and chair – a project in partnership with Bantuvukani Secondary in Lamontville.
Their bee mascot hosted a spelling bee competition for children from eight to 14 and showed off his dance moves with an unique dance.
The aim of the expo has to bring together various sectors to share ideas around sustainable living with the hope of sharing and reproducing these ideas throughout the province.
