Potjie cook-off to challenge Ramblers hikers
Enjoy an annual potjie competition challenge

DURBAN Ramblers Hiking Club visits Stockville on Saturday, 13 September.

Meet at the Gillitts Post Office at 1.30pm. Hikers will then share transport to the end of Jan Smuts Avenue, Winston Park to the start of the hike.
They will hike along the escarpment, down into the Stockville Valley and back to Gillitts Post Office. Some members will drive back to the end of Jan Smuts to retrieve cars.
After the hike, enjoy an annual potjie competition challenge at a cost of R50 per person. Potjie cooks must take their own gas burners, potjie, crockery and cutlery and register by 6 September. Non-cooks will be deemed to be judges and must also book and take their crockery and cutlery. The venue is Lois and Werner’s house. For more information and registration, call 031-767-2969. Numbers are limited so book early. Do not ring after 6 September, as no latecomers will be accepted – no exceptions.
There is no short hike. This hike is graded four, very strenuous.
On Sunday, 14 September members take a hike to Winterskloof in Pietermaritzburg. Call hike leader Francois Marais on 083-983-8007 or Marie on 082-586-0266.
Meet in the car park at Crossways Inn at 8.30am. Travel up Town Hill and take the Hilton off-ramp. Ramblers will hike through areas of Winterskloof, stopping at Doreen Clarke Nature Reserve, walking along sections of the old railway line and exploring plantations. Expect up and down hills. After the hike hikers will enjoy home-brewed beer. This 18km hike is graded three, strenuous.
