Help seniors celebrate ‘care for elderly week’

The week of celebrating their lives will culminate in the residents’ families being invited to the home from 11.30am to 2pm on Saturday, 4 October.

‘CARE for the Elderly Week’ from 29 September to 5 October will see the Issy Geshen Lamont Home for the Aged celebrating with six planned activities for its 70 elderly residents.

The Issy Geshen Home in Lamontville, which celebrates its 54th anniversary this year, provides care and promotes the physical, emotional and social well-being of the residents, whose average age is 72 years.

The Issy Geshen Home is looking for the sponsorship of cool drinks, food items or cash donations to cover the cost of the week of activities which will be the highlight of the residents’ year. To get involved, please email Tenley Cummings on tenley@tenandcompany.com.

The week kicks off with a walk around the grounds with three different courses for the frail, medium and fit walkers. Ice cream will be served afterwards and certificates handed out to the winners. On Tuesday, 30 September residents will be visiting the Imbali Encane creche. The elderly will be sharing treats, organised by the Robin Hood Foundation, with the 130 pre-schoolers. A movie and popcorn morning will take place on Wednesday, followed by a braai and story-telling the following day. On Friday, residents will take a train trip to Scottburgh and will enjoy a picnic lunch. The week of celebrating their lives will culminate in the residents’ families being invited to the home from 11.30am to 2pm on Saturday, 4 October. Many residents have not received a visitor in months or even years.
