Police steamroll locomotive parts thief

Police arrest a man trying to steal locomotive parts in Jacobs.

QUICK-ACTING police officers arrested a man attempting to steal R100,00 worth of locomotive parts in Jacobs on Sunday, 14 December.

At about 7.30am Wentworth SAPS’ Sergeant Craig Brigetta and Constable Shoba received a tip-off that a business breaking was in progress at an engineering company in Hime Lane.

When they arrived at the business, they heard noise coming from inside and saw a door that was slightly ajar. Once they were given access to the property by a worker, they found a man jumping from a ladder. Sgt Brigetta arrested himn and the officers found the locomotive parts he was attempting to steal outside, ready to be loaded onto a vehicle. The parts, which were mostly imported, were valued at R100,000.

The manager of the company and Wentworth SAPS management commend the officers on their swift response.
