Paraglider crashes in Merebank

After the patient had been stabilised, a specialised rope system was put in place to hoist him to safety.

A 69-year-old paraglider was lucky to escape injury after he had a accident while paragliding on Baldana Road in Merebank at about 2pm on Monday, 5 January.

“Paramedics were called to the accident by bystanders. First to arrive on scene was a Rescue Care advanced life support paramedic who made his way down a steep bushy embankment to the injured man. Paramedics called in the SAPS Search and Rescue unit as well as Durban Fire Department. After the patient had been stabilised, a specialised rope system was put in place to hoist him to safety. He was transported to a nearby hospital for further care,” said operations director, Garrith Jamieson.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
