Crow puts down injured gannett
Holidaymakers found the gannet which was unable to fly and contacted Crow.
THE Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow) rescued an injured gannett in Illovo Beach near Natalia Caravan Park on Wednesday, 7 January.
Holidaymakers found the gannet which was unable to fly and contacted Crow. “The Gannet had a deep gash on his head, as well as spinal damage to its lower back. We are not sure how he sustained the injuries, it could have been from a large finfish, such as a tuna, but we really can’t say. Unfortunately for the gannet, its injuries were too severe and he wouldn’t have been able to pull through. Our clinic team had to make the difficult decision to euthanize,” said Crow marketing and communications officer, Paul Hoyte.
