Bluff police help collar gunmen

MEMBERS of the Brighton Beach task team helped arrested two men in KwaMakhuta on Wednesday, 22 July, following a high speed chase and shoot out.

During the early hours of the day, the officers, along with KwaMakhutha SAPS, advanced on a car with five people inside. When they saw the police, the occupants opened fire and tried to race away.

Police returned fire while chasing after the vehicle, which eventually crashed into a house. Three of the occupants were able to flee on foot, while two were arrested and a 9mm pistol and five mobile phones were found by police.

The 18 and 24-year-old were arrested on charges of attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“It is obvious these individuals were up to no good. Detectives will ensure they are profiled to establish whether they are wanted for other crimes in the province. I am pleased that our police officers were not injured during the shoot-out,” said KZN police commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
