Six life sentences for serial rapist

Women rest easier as attacker is jailed.

SOUTH Durban rapist, Aubrey Ndadane will spend life behind bars after he assaulted six women since January.

On Thursday, 10 September, Ndadane was found guilty on six counts of rape and five counts of theft for the attacks in Wentworth and Montclair.

The 41-year-old would offer jobs to women, then take them to an isolated area and rape them at knife-point. After the attack he would force the women to wash themselves with a water from a bottle he carried with him to destroy DNA evidence. In five of the assaults, he then robbed the women before fleeing.

Brighton Beach SAPS detective head, Lt Col Jayson McGrey, picked a team to work with him to solve the case. Evidence in the case was relooked at and reconstructed to ensure nothing was missed. DNA samples from a water bottle and toy gun found at one of the attack sites was analysed and comparison results confirmed it was the same person in all six cases.

Lt Col McGrey was able to link a man to the mobile device he was still using through information provided given to him by two of the victims. All this information allowed the police to determine who the attacker was.

Along with Warrant Officer Marius van der Looy, Lt Col McGrey arrested Ndadane on the Bluff on Monday, 10 August.

“Six women can now embark on their personal journeys to find inner healing and recover from the trauma they endured by the hands of their rapist after he was found guilty,” said Brighton Beach SAPS communications officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.

“Upon passing the sentence, Magistrate Wendy Robinson said Ndadane showed no remorse or regard for his victims,” she added.

For the rape of six women, aged from 22 to 38, Ndadane was given six life sentences along with an additional three years per woman he robbed. The sentences will run concurrently.

Lt Col McGrey acknowledges his task team for their work, including W/Os van der Looy and Solomon, Captains SE Dubezane and Hlongwe, Constables A Basha, CA Thomas and Nobetsiki, and Sergeant P van der Berg.

“Brighton Beach SAPS management congratulates Lt Col McGrey W/O van der Looy for the six life sentences imposed by the court. They played an integral role in securing four life sentences

imposed by the court during the conviction of the axe murderer. These detectives’ skills, competencies and experience in their fields were once again showed during the investigation and court proceedings. We are proud of the achievements of our detectives and acknowledge their work which was again of the highest standard,” said Capt Le Roux.
