Dogs saved from 5m deep hole
CPF chairman, Roy Brown has contacted the department of parks and recreation to investigate
THE Montclair community has proven their love for dogs when a group of people banded together on Saturday, 12 March, to save two frightened Alsatians who were trapped in a five metre deep hole.
The hole was discovered by a resident Paul Kirk around 8am next to the dump in Glanville Road and it is unknown who dug it and why. The community members worked tirelessly, ensuring both dogs were rescued and that the hole was filled up before another incident occured. Julie Meyer, CPF media liaison commends the community for their help, “Hats off to those who heard the cry for help and assisted with filling the massive hole. It has been filled in now, so no animal or child will get stuck. Montclair CPF chairman, Roy Brown has contacted the department of parks and recreation to investigate how the hole materialised and also to get someone to fill the hole completely,” said Meyer.
Brown also thanked the Montclair community, Carolina Watch community members, MCE community members and Chris Tomlinson from Park Patrol for the assistance as well as Gavin Cousins from Elite 1 security for supplying the danger tape to secure the perimeter of the hole.
Brenda Neal, Montclair Victim Support Centre (VSC) co-ordinator said it was an awesome sight to see community members come together in aid of the two dogs but wishes the owner of the animals would come forward to claim them. “The hole was massive and the pictures do no justice to the actual size, we are grateful that these dogs survived without a scratch,” she added.
The dogs were taken to the Montclair Animal Hospital and were attended to Dr Yesh Govender and his wife, Dr Omashini Armoogum. If anyone is missing two Alsatians contact them on, 031-462-7420.
