Hostel shoot-out leaves one dead

Montclair SAPS is investigating the case

A SHOOT-OUT at Wema hostel has left a woman dead and her boyfriend injured after members of the Provincial Crime Intelligence together with members of the Umhlali K9 unit conducted an operation on Sunday, 3 April at about 10pm.

The members, following information of unlicensed firearms, arrived at the couples room when they heard the sound of cocking firearms. A shoot-out followed between them. A woman was critically injured and later died in hospital. While the man sustained gunshot wounds.

Three unlicensed firearms, an AK 47 and two pistols were recovered from the couple. Two suspects aged 31 and 39 were arrested and charged. An assortment 64 of live rounds of ammunition were also recovered from the suspects.”Charges of attempted murder, pointing of a firearm, inquest, possession of an unlicensed firearms and live rounds of ammunition were opened for investigation at Montclair SAPS. The recovered firearms will be taken for ballistics to ascertain if they were used in the commission of the other crimes in the country,” said Major Shooz Magudulela.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police officers for the recovery of the unlicensed firearms. “The suspects will be profiled to check if they are linked to other cases committed in the province,” she said.
