Women targeted by criminals

Handbags belong in the boot. Do not leave valuables visible in your car.

Stones were used to gain access to a woman’s car on Tuesday, 2 August at about 6pm. While driving over the bridge on Pendlebury Road, Mobeni, two men threw stones at her vehicle and damaged the passenger window. One of them approached her and grabbed her bag, containing her cellphone, through the broken window.

On South Coast Road, Clairwood, a woman was held up at knifepoint while walking on the road on Sunday, 31 July. Two knife-wielding men approached the woman demanding her bag. They snatched it from her and tried to snatch her necklace off her neck. She screamed for help causing them to run off with just the bag which allegedly contained R13,000 in cash, her ID and other cards.

  • Do not carry a large amount of cash when walking in public
  • Be alert to suspicious people/vehicles.
  • Keep all valuables out of sight.
  • Be alert of remote jammings and always secure your vehicle.
  • Be aware of hijack hotspots.
